Halloween arrived a week later at Cyber Nepal and it was one spooky experience that none of us will forget! We tried our hands on the latest HTC Vive Cosmos VR Headset with one of the scariest games out there. Trust us…some of us are horror fans but this game is definitely our worst nightmare!
The HTC Vive Cosmos VR Headset comes with a price tag of $699 so yeah, no more eating out if you want to save up for this. But knowing that it’s competing with the Oculus Rift S, which is priced at $399, we are wondering if the Vive Cosmos is really worth robbing a bank!
The packaging was nothing less than amazing. It looks and feels expensive. The headset and its accompanying gadgets are kept in separate compartments. Overall, the unboxing experience was a treat.
What’s Inside The Box?
- VR Headset
- Vive Cosmos controllers
- Display port
- USB3 cable
- Power adaptor
- Link box
- 4 AA batteries (2 for each controller)
Fits with glasses
6 cameras for inside out tracking
This one looks a bit more colorful and cooler than its predecessor. The outer body is dark blue in color and the two forward-facing cameras look like eyes. The remaining four cameras are mounted on the top, bottom, left and right side of the visor. The 6 cameras help in inside out tracking.
The controllers look like some real good, futuristic stuff. As if the geometric designs were not good enough, the lights make it pop even more and we felt no less than superheroes while holding them!
Satisfactory Comfort Level
The halo design of the VR headset is a good move in order to distribute its weight evenly. The adjustable strap over the head ensures the VR headset stays stable at all times. Moreover, the detachable headphones are snuggly fit once you ‘lock’ them in. The flip-up display is another plus if your spook tolerance is low and quickly want a reality check while playing horror games! It also makes it spacious enough to wear the headset with your glasses on. Also, the synthetic leather padding is replaceable which means it’s easy to take it off and toss it in the washing machine.
The controllers are a bit on the bulkier side. But other than that, we don’t think there’s much to complain about.
The HTC Vivo Cosmos VR headset has two LCD panels of 1440×1700 pixels per eye with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Thus, the picture quality and contrast are way sharper than the Oculus Quest and HTC Vive Pro. We could definitely see the ghost chasing us in the game when the lights were off so yeah, the colors and sharpness are TOO GOOD for our liking!
Great Sound Quality
Once you adjust the headset with the strap, you can lock in the headphones to ensure an optimum spooky experience! Once the headphones are locked, there’s no escape and Emily will get to you…soon.
Smooth Gameplay With Some Compromises
The pro-gamers and the noob-gamers, all could agree that the VR experience was out of this world. No matter how many times we kept reminding ourselves, “It’s just a game,” we couldn’t help but scream at every little door creak!
Yes, there was a slight light leak from each side and through the nose flap but it’s negligible unless you’ve tried other VR headsets with better coverage. The fact that the Cosmos displays cannot be moved forward or backward is also a downside. Moreover, holding the controllers on your sides, behind you, above your head and near the headset will also cause some tracking issues.
However, the obnoxious cable was a major turn off for all! It’s quite long and rigid so while you’re running away from Emily, there are high chances that you might trip over it and fall flat on your face!
We, at CyberNepal, had a great time with the HTC Vive Cosmos VR headset + ‘Emily Wants To Play’ survival game. The VR headset is definitely on the pricier side but our experience made up for it. However, hardcore gamers or passionate tech enthusiasts may get annoyed by the little faults caused by the inside out tracking.
‘Emily Wants To Play’ but do we? Well, we’ve got no choice. Check out our reaction and review of the HTC Vive Cosmos VR Headset NOW.
