Sony has announced that they will be launching the new PlayStation 5 on holidays 2020. Sony’s latest console has been gaining some considerable hype from the community. Rumors and teasers have been going around the community, and even Sony leaked some information about the Playstation 5.
What can we expect on the new PlayStation 5
Sony is set to release the PlayStation 5, and people have already speculated its massive success. The PlayStation 4, a huge success in Sony’s standpoint as they single-handedly destroy their seeming rivals, Microsoft’s Xbox One. Sony had some exciting and breathtaking releases like Marvel’s Spider-Man, God Of War, Uncharted, and some remakes of older titles like Crash Bandicoot. Sony invested tons of money for their console exclusive, and it’s simply the best reason why you should buy a console. Talking about the significant leaks and upgrades, here a quick breakdown on the PlayStation 5.
New Hardware Upgrades and Model:
All the console of the current generation run on the AMD based Jaguar processors. The existing PC hardware has gone a considerable upgrade and supports “RAY-TRACING.” The word “RAY-TRACING” has been haunting the general console players. AMD promised its consumers, stating that their new RDNA 2 architecture will support Ray-tracing as well. To make up for their thirst, Sony is still using an AMD processor for brains and visuals. Rather than implementing Ray-Tracing on the software side, Sony wants to implement Ray-tracing support on the hardware itself.
Sony will go on using AMD’s hardware with its new 7nm microarchitecture. The PlayStation 5 might have 6 processing cores for the CPU and will feature a customized NAVI GPU to handle the graphical prowess of the games heading to PlayStation 5. Sony also stated that the new PlayStation 5 ships with SSD ditching the traditional harddrive. This move towards SSD improves the performance of the PlayStation 5 in terms of loading time, writes speeds, etc. SSD’s prices have been decreasing in the past few years and affordable to the public. Reports hint that the games will now vastly open-world games will load 1 minute. Gone are the days waiting 3 mins to load your open-world games like Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, and more.
The new Playstation also has a different body design. A V-shaped body with ventilation outlets on the side and the middle of the case. The case seems to draw air from the back while exhausting the hot air on the sides and middle of the case. Sony has approached a new design leaving behind its boxy design. The system will come with a 4K Blu-ray disc drive, multiple USB ports, etc.
The new DualShock 5 is getting a new facelift. The DualShock 4 controller for the PlayStation 4 was a great hit for Sony; Now they want to make it even better. The new DualShock controller will be bulkier than your previous-gen controller. Sony seems to ditch the rumble vibrating motor and adding a haptic feedback motor on the new controller. Sony claims the new controller will give gamers a unique sensation while playing simulating different environments feedbacks. These are just rumors, and we don’t how will Sony emulated those feedbacks on their controller.
More improvements are seen on the analog joystick and the adaptive triggers. The controller now comes with USB-C charging port. Plus, Sony removed the light bar on the controller. They seem to make substantial design changes to their products. The new controller may be hefty but lighter compared to Microsoft’s Xbox controller.
Exclusive Titles and Backward compatibility:
Sony signed some major game developer studios this year and will put forward tons of PlayStation exclusive next year. We await the father and son duo in God of War sequel, another family story in Last Of Us, and many more. Rumors (might not be 100% true) speculate that Sony signed a deal with Rockstar games to make GTA VI exclusive for the PlayStation 4 for a month. Sony wants everyone to chime in to their new console to taste the latest GTA games. After the massive success of GTA V, people wait for their new sequel, If Sony indeed signed a deal with Rockstar this would influence a vast number of people to try out the latest GTA VI with their PlayStation 5. Cheeky marketing move there from Sony.
News also stated the games on the new Playstation could be downloaded in different sections for quick access to the game. For example: if you like the multiplayer gameplay of the latest Call of Duty, then you can download the multiplayer segment of the game only. That saves huge space on your storage as you avoid downloading the single-player maps and add-ons. Great move by Sony. The new Playstation 5 will be backward compatible with PlayStation 4. No backward compatibility with older PlayStations.
Unlisted and wacky rumors on Playstation 5:
There are rumors about Sony new signed patent on the SSD. Sony is going to introduce a swappable SSD for the Playstation. Rather than installing a big SSD each time after the drive gets full or buying an attachment to increase the capacity, Sony filed a patent for a swappable SSD bay for the Playstation. Finally, Sony headed our plea on the storage.
The Dev kits for the Playstation leaked on the 1st of December. The Dev kits look huge and boasted an LCD on the front of the console. Sony assured that the final PlayStation 5 would be smaller. The LCD will not make the final product too.
Sony’s PlayStation 5 looks to exceed all the expectations on the console front. We still have a year so that we might be on a long wait. Yes, a year might not seem long, but the rumors and leaks make the wait even longer. We hope to review the new PlayStation 5 on the launch.
